The Pearl-M model comes with a Granular Activated Carbon/KDF-55 cartridge. The Carbon filters out Volatile Organic Compounds (eg pesticides, herbicides..), PAHs, Trihalometanes (carcinogenic chlorine disinfection byproducts), pharmaceutical residues, endocrine disruptors, hormones and deals with taste and odour problems by filtering out chlorine and sediments. The KDF-55 media takes out the heavy metals.
